DSI Waterford & South Kilkenny Branch is a support group for families of and people with Down Syndrome in Waterford and South Kilkenny, Ireland. We work to help people with Down Syndrome reach their full potential by providing information and support to them, their families, carers and professionals.
Our Branch provides Therapy, Education, Support and Activities for our members and their families. We also strive to raise awareness and understanding of DS among professionals and the public.
Reasons to support this group
People with DS want to be active and valuable members of their community. To enable this, our members just need some support and the provision of an Occupational Therapy (OT) service would really help. OT practitioners work with people with Down Syndrome to help them master skills for independence through self-care like feeding and dressing, fine and gross motor skills, school performance, and play and leisure activities. We would hope to be able to provide OT services, with the help of donations, to all of our members from the Early Intervention ages right through to our Adult members.
Families of people with DS face a lot of challenges including long delays in securing necessary therapies for their children. The DSI Waterford & South KK Branch is here to help and wants to improve access for our members to vital therapies.
Occupational Therapy will help to improve the independence skills of our members and lead to better prospects for independent living in the future.
